7.1 Mathematical process standards. The student uses mathematical processes to acquire and demonstrate mathematical understanding.

7.4 Proportionality. The student applies mathematical process standards to represent and solve problems involving proportional relationships.

We will apply mathematical thinking to quantities consisting of less than a whole.

I will apply my knowledge of fractions to a holiday-themed culinary task.

Preheat your oven to 350F.
Line 2 cookie sheets with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl whisk together the flour, salt and corn starch and set aside.
In a large bowl, combine butter and sugar and cream together on low for around 30 seconds.
Add in the vanilla and a large room temperature egg and continue mixing on low for 2 minutes until the mixture is light in texture and pale in color.
Add your dry mixture into your wet mixture and mix on low until the dough just comes together and no streaks of flour remain.
If using more than one color separate your dough into bowls and add a small amount of food coloring, mixing until fully incorporated.
Place 2-4 tablespoons of sprinkles into a small bowl to dip the cookie dough balls into.
Scoop balls of dough and dip the top of half of these cookie cough balls into the sprinkle mixture.
To the other half, add eyeball candies on top.
Bake for 7-9 minutes and need to come out as soon as the bottoms start to brown. They may look underdone but they will firm up as they cool down. Allow them to cool for a couple of minutes and then move to a wire rack to finish cooling completely.
