8.11 Organisms and environments. The student knows that interdependence occurs among living systems and the environment and that human activities can affect these systems. The student is expected to:
8.11.C recognize human dependence on ocean systems and explain how human activities such as runoff, artificial reefs, or use of resources have modified these systems.
We will explore how human activities can disrupt the habitat of animals.
I will identify positive and negative actions towards the environment.
1. Watch 2 short Cyberchase videos.
2. Review how the team solved the problem.
To give the cyberdillos what they need in the woods:
a.) Remove barriers to digging: Take away rocks and tracks so cyberdillos can dig in the ground for food and make burrows.
b.) Spread fallen logs: Fallen logs are a good habitat for many insects, which cyberdillos can eat.
To get the cyberdillos to avoid the ballpark:
a.) Take Away the Food Smells: Clean up leftover food and trash so animals are not drawn to the area looking for something to eat.
b.) Make the Area Hard to Dig In: Put down tarps or covers so the ground is not easy for animals to find food in or dig burrows.
c.) Remove the Water Source: Fix leaks so there is no extra water for the animals to use, making the area less useful for them.
