8.6 Force, motion, and energy. The student knows that there is a relationship between force, motion, and energy. The student is expected to:
8.6.C investigate and describe applications of Newton’s three laws of motion such as in vehicle restraints, sports activities, amusement park rides, Earth’s tectonic activities, and rocket launches.
We will explore forces of motion.
I will test the relationship between an object’s motion and the forces acting on it.

Distracted Driving Driving a motor vehicle while doing something else at the same time.

Tailgating Driving too closely behind another vehicle, so that an accident becomes more likely

Road Rage Angry behavior by drivers toward other drivers, pedestrians (walkers), or bike riders

Intertia It is reason why stationary objects don’t move until something or someone moves them. It is also the reason objects that are moving keep moving until something stops them.



5. Model how seatbelts save lives.
- Set up a fairly steep ramp, leaned against a table, and leading to a wall or other stationary object.
- Place a raw egg in a sealed plastic sandwich bag OR use a hard boiled egg.
- Place the egg in a toy vehicle.
- Roll the car down the ramp and determine if the resulting collision damaged the egg.
- Repeat the experiment, after taping a hard boiled egg securely into the vehicle, modeling a seat belt.

Speaking of collisions…
Two turtles were involved in a head-on collision, the police turtle asked a bystander turtle how the crash happened?
