TEKS & Objectives
7.6. Matter and energy. The student knows that matter has physical and chemical properties and can undergo physical and chemical changes. The student is expected to distinguish between physical and chemical changes in matter.
We will identify chemical changes.
I will describe how to create a chemical change.
1. Watch video.
2. Review science vocabulary.
Physical Change A type of change in which a new substance is NOT formed. For example: water boiling or cut paper.

Chemical Change A type of change in which a new substance is formed. For example: releasing heat or light energy.

3. Observe how well glow sticks glow in cold or warm water.
Mark your hypothesis (prediction) on your lab report

Perform the experiment
- Submerge your glow sticks in each cup of water at the same time (one with hot water and one with ice).
- Wait three minutes before comparing your results.
- You can watch this fun video while you wait. It’s three minutes!
Record your observations on your lab report and draw conclusions.

4. If accessible, watch Emily’s Wonder Lab episode 1: “Glow Party” on Netflix.
Paint a picture with glow-in-the-dark paint or neon paint.
