TEKS & Objectives
7.2 Scientific investigation and reasoning. The student uses scientific practices during laboratory and field investigations. The student is expected to:
7.2.A plan and implement comparative and descriptive investigations by making observations, asking well defined questions, and using appropriate equipment and technology;
We will use engineering to creatively solve problems.
I will design, build, and test a structure to solve a problem.
1. Watch video.
2. Design and build your own marble run using the materials available to you!
3. Check out some other simple machines.
- A long time ago, a cartoonist named Rube Goldberg though it would be funny to design super complicated machines to do simple things.
- His designs became so famous that anything similar is now called a Rube Goldberg machine.

Watch the video below for a great example of one…
Today, we just worked with inclined planes, but you can make just about anything by using all the simple machines together. See how below:
Got some extra time? Now that we’ve built roller coasters for marbles, check out how real ones are engineered.
Speaking of today’s project…
The dog says woof.
The cat says meow.
The hippo says…
I’m hungry. Gimme your marbles!
