8.6. Force, motion, and energy. The student knows that there is a relationship between force, motion, and energy. The student is expected to:

Force A force is a push or pull that makes things (objects) move. A force can also make objects slow, go fast, or change direction. A force can be weak or strong.
Direction A direction is the path that an object (a thing) takes. For example, an object can be moved up, down, right, or left.
Push A push is when you use force to move an object away from you.
Pull A pull is when you use force to move an object closer to you.
Motion Motion is when an object is moving. When an object changes its position, it is moving.
3. Test the effects of force on motion and direction.
- Try the DIY activity in the video.
- Create a “golf course” using a plastic cup, books and other objects. Test the effect of different kinds of pushes and direction changes.
- Be creative!
